POM plastic, commonly known as Sustarin (also known as Polyoxymethylene) is produced by Roechling in the form of sheets, rods and tubes. POM plastic is a semi-crystalline thermoplastic with high mechanical strength and high stiffness. Acetal polymers have good sliding properties and excellent wear resistance, as well as low moisture absorption.
Good dimensional stability and particularly good fatigue strength, as well as excellent machinability, make POM plastic a very versatile engineering material, even for complex parts.
A distinction is made between acetal homopolymers (POM-H) and acetal copolymers (POM-C) with regard to their properties. Due to the higher crystallinity, the properties of POM-H include slightly higher density, hardness and strength. However, Sustarin C material has higher chemical resistance and a lower melting point than POM-H.
